Western Hills is on a journey to re-imagine our identity. We realize that our community has changed in ways that we could not predict and there are opportunities to serve that we are excited about. Our journey is to become a missional group of people...to become the expression of Jesus to the community of South West Fort Worth. We are in the humble process of discovery, asking ourselves difficult questions and examining our current practices to see if they fit the needs of our 'new community.' Why are we here? Would our community notice if we were gone? Is our community a better place because we are here? All of these questions take time and prayer to identify the answer. This is our journey, a journey toward missional faithfulness and we are taking it step-by-step together as a church family. Philosophy of Ministry
Every church uniquely represents the body of Christ. We believe
that Western Hills Baptist Church has a distinct way to be of use in
God’s Kingdom. Many churches minister through a variety of programs,
but we choose to focus on simple things such as worship, relationships
and serving our community.
At Western Hills we try to remain simple in our structure so that we
can focus on the sincere and sacred. People come to Western Hills
because they want to be known, accepted and discover ways to serve. We still practice congregational governance and have formal
business meetings and votes…but we meet a lot less and laugh a lot more.
We at Western Hills Baptist Church have chosen to say no to some good
things, so we can say yes to the best things. We want to do a few
things well, such as offering worship that is healing and empowering,
thus enabling us to be the presence of Christ during the work week
through our vocations.
We love grace and come together centered in the historic Christian
faith, trying to follow Jesus, to know each other, and to offer worship
to God in an authentic and thoughtful manner. We are a 'different kind' of Baptist congregation than is usually found in our area. We are not fundamentalist in our theology or approach to church life. WHBC identifies with the grace orientation of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and use the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message as our theological guard rails. |
